N’Djamena, 30th November 2018 Under the Chairmanship of H.E. MUHAMMADU BUHARI, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and current Chairman of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), an Extraordinary Summit of LCBC member countries affected by the Boko Haram crisis was held on 29 November 2018 at the Presidency of the Republic of Chad.
The meeting was attended by Presidents Idriss Deby Itno of Chad, Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger, Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and Prime Minister Philemon Yang of Cameroon. The Summit aimed to review the latest developments in the security situation in the Lake Chad Basin, following in particular the upsurge in attacks by Boko Haram and to adopt appropriate measures to put an ultimate end to the atrocities of this terrorist group.
The Summit also intended to seek possible ways and means to ensure the Stabilisation, recovery and resilience of the areas aff
ected by this crisis. These solutions are a prerequisite towards revitalizing Lake Chad and its resources, which is a source of life for nearly fifty million inhabitants in Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad.
