The African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC), on 5 December 2018, in Addis Ababa, endorsed the Regional Stabilization Strategy (RSS) for the Areas in the Lake Chad Basin Affected by Boko Haram. The endorsement followed the presentation of the Strategy to the Council by the Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), Amb. Mamman NUHU. The endorsement signifies a buy-in to the Strategy by the African Union.

The AU-PSC noted the importance of the strategy as a regional intervention framework that will ensure resilience building in the eight states and provinces of the Boko Haram affected countries of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. The five-year development strategy was earlier validated and adopted by LCBC member States in Abuja, on 30 August, 2018.
