The Executive Secretariat of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) is the central operational body responsible for implementing the strategic decisions of the Summit of Heads of State and the Council of Ministers. It serves as the engine of regional cooperation, development, and peacebuilding across the Lake Chad Basin.

Mandate and Responsibilities

The Secretariat is mandated to:

  • Execute decisions and resolutions of the Summit and Council of Ministers.
  • Coordinate regional programs and projects.
  • Manage transboundary water resources and environmental initiatives.
  • Promote peace, security, and regional integration.
  • Mobilize resources and partnerships for sustainable development.
  • It ensures that LCBC’s vision of a resilient, peaceful, and prosperous Lake Chad Basin is translated into tangible outcomes.

Leadership and Structure

The Secretariat is headed by the Executive Secretary, currently Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, who also serves as Head of Mission of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). Supporting the Executive Secretary are key advisors and officers including:
