Regional Cooperation and Cross-Border Collaboration
Uniting Nations for Shared Prosperity and Environmental Stewardship
he Lake Chad Basin is a transboundary treasure shared by six countries—Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Central African Republic, and Libya. Its ecological, economic, and cultural significance transcends borders, making regional cooperation and cross-border collaboration essential for sustainable development, peace, and resilience. The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) serves as the institutional backbone of this cooperation, fostering unity and joint action among Member States.
A Framework for Collective
Action
LCBC’s mandate is rooted in the principles of shared responsibility, equitable resource management, and regional solidarity. Through instruments such as the Water Charter (2012), the Strategic Action Programme (SAP 2023–2037), and the Regional Strategy for Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience (RSS), LCBC promotes:
Integrated water and environmental governance.
Joint planning and implementation of transboundary projects.
Conflict prevention and hydro-diplomacy.
Inclusive participation of local communities and stakeholders.
