The LCBC’s highest political organ, guiding regional cooperation, peace, and sustainable development across the Lake Chad Basin.
The Summit of Heads of State and Government is the apex decision‑making body of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). Established by the Fort‑Lamy Convention (1964), the Summit provides strategic political direction for shared water governance, environmental stewardship, and regional integration across the Basin.
Set the LCBC’s strategic vision and approve major policy, programme, and financing decisions.
Provide top‑level guidance on peace and security, including coordination with the MNJTF and regional partners.
Endorse frameworks on climate resilience, water management, and development, aligning with LCBC legal instruments.

How the Summit Works
Statutory cadence:
Biannual (every two years) ordinary sessions; extraordinary sessions may be convened for urgent matters (e.g., security developments, environmental emergencies).
The Summit provides political direction to the Council of Ministers and Executive Secretariat and validates basin‑wide instruments and initiatives.

Aligns national priorities for shared waters, ecosystems, livelihoods, and stability.
Sustains political oversight for regional operations addressing Boko Haram/ISWAP and cross‑border threats.
